NYC Watershed protection programs are often touted nationally:

Collins often points to New York City’s decision to buy large tracts of forest as a way to control its watershed and maintain clean water supplies, which it made after determining it would save money compared to building a large-scale water treatment facility, as an example of how ecosystem services are becoming widely accepted.
